Youth Man
Fat Dead Elvis

Anxious and panic-stricken, Fat Dead Elvis is worried about what comes next but, for Youth Man, it’s another confident smirk as they continue their charge forward.

Building on a series of gnarled releases (2013’s Bad Weather and 2015’s Hill Of Knives) the second track from Youth Man’s upcoming Wax EP (out July 1 on the excellent Venn Records) sees the band taking that self-destructive spirit and downing it. Melodic beauty swirls under the grit and nervous energy as the trio refuses to stop moving. It’s a marriage tied under conviction.

A four minute psychological thriller or just another cut from the best punk band in the country, Fat Dead Elvis sees Youth Man come into their own. Instead of just yapping at the heels of the world around them, the band digs deep and explores the apprehensive state of things to come. From burning out to burning down, there’s a lot at play but the band never lose their wide-eyed smiles.

Vicious, intricate and oh-so-cutting, Fat Dead Elvis is still a whole bunch of fun. Swinging punches and partners, it’s both an anthem for the doomed youth and for simply having a good time. Few bands can straddle that divide but Youth Man provide a bridge over troubled waters. Long may they reign.
