Metallica and Carrie Underwood among first wave of acts announced to play The Grammys

John Legend, Metallica, Carrie Underwood and Keith Urban are part of the first round of artists who will perform at the 59th Grammy Awards on February 12 in Los Angeles.

Metallica's James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich are nominated for Best Rock Song (Hardwired), Underwood is nominated for Best Country Solo Performance (Church Bells), and Urban is up for Best Country Album (Ripcord) and Best Country Solo Performance (Blue Ain't Your Color).

Additional performers will be announced shortly. The show will be broadcast live from Staples Center on CBS and will be hosted by television personality and performer James Corden. It is produced by AEG Ehrlich Ventures for The Recording Academy.

Nominations for this year’s Grammy Awards were announced in December, with Adele, David Bowie, PJ Harvey and Coldplay among the British acts selected. Beyoncé has nine nominations, while Drake and Rihanna have eight each.
