Ed Sheeran has released more new music from his upcoming third album ÷.
The singer turns 26 today (February 16), and to celebrate he has released How Would You Feel (Paean). Sheeran broke the news on Twitter earlier this week, posting ‘New song coming Friday, look out for it’ on February 14, then, ‘How Would You Feel (Paen) comes out tomorrow at midnight wherever you are in the world, its not the next single, but is one of my favzzzzz’ on February 15.
There is no official YouTube video for the song yet, but it is available on Spotify, with day one figures still to be publicised. Last month, Sheeran smashed One Direction’s record of first day streams (4,759,698 for Drag Me Down) with simultaneously released new singles Shape Of You (6,868,642 streams) and Castle On The Hill (6,168,395 streams).
Shape Of You currently sits at No.1 in the singles chart, with Castle On The Hill at No.2, they have occupied those positions for a record-breaking five weeks and are both certified platinum. However, Sheeran’s duopoly could be broken by Rag’N’Bone’s Human single, which looks set to chart at No.2 this week. Shape Of You accumulated 271,541 sales (134,198 from streams) in its first week, while Castle On The Hill amassed 230,659 (110,744 from streams). This constituted the biggest opening week for any artist since Adele’s November 2015 return with Hello, which debuted at No.1 with 332,000 combined sales.
On YouTube, Shape Of You currently has 131,627,495 views, while Castle On The Hill has 60,868,885.
Last month, Sheeran’s manager Stuart Camp of Rocket Music discussed the campaign with Music Week, saying, “We’re very proud of it [the new album], we’re just desperate for people to hear it and get it out there”. To read the full interview click here.
