Universal Publishing Production Music (UPPM) has announced the appointment of Jane Carter as managing director in the UK for Universal Production Music and Focus Music.
Carter succeeds John Clifford, in a position effective January 15, 2018. She will lead production music growth strategy and client relations for both Universal Production Music and Focus Music.
Based in London, Carter will report to Michael Sammis, president of Universal Publishing Production Music Worldwide and Mike McCormack, UK MD for Universal Music Publishing.
Carter said, "I am passionate about music and acutely aware of the vital role of production music in Film, Television and all media. It’s a wonderful opportunity to work with Michael, Mike and the entire Production Music team to build on what is already a very successful production music business in the UK.”
Sammis said, “I am thrilled to welcome Jane to the UPPM global executive team. Her diversified experience will not only greatly enhance the strength of our UK and global presence, but will enable significant value creation through her broadcasting experience and synergy with Mike McCormack and his core publishing team.”
McCormack added, “With her broad experience in production music, Jane will be a valuable addition as MD of our excellent production music division. Myself and Mike Sammis felt we needed someone for the role who could add an extra dimension to the great work the team has already done over the past few years. With Jane’s extensive experience and contacts from working in broadcasting, live events, production music and managing the careers of some of the UK’s finest composers, she was the ideal candidate.”?
Carter has previously set up her own music production company, and most recently served as business manager for film composer George Fenton, managing his publishing catalogue and live event portfolio. She was also responsible for Fenton’s partnership with BBC Worldwide, including leading the development and production of BBC’s Earth in Concert Series.
Carter has also worked with film composers Michael Nyman, Craig Armstrong, Max Richter and Steven Price, and steered two groundbreaking BBC Proms with the National Theatre and Aardman Animations. Carter also served as FM for BBC Worldwide Music Publishing, creative director, BBC Music and head of marketing for Warner Classics UK.
