RIAA appoints George York to oversee international policy

Veteran trade official George York has been appointed senior vice president, international policy at the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

He will join the Washington, DC-based association’s public policy team, reporting to RIAA executive vice president, public policy & industry relations Michele Ballantyne.

Before joining the RIAA, York was deputy assistant United States trade representative in USTR’s Office of intellectual property and innovation. He also served as trade counsel for the United States House of Representatives Committee on Ways and Means, associate general counsel at USTR, and as an associate in the international trade group of the law firm Mayer Brown, LLP.

“We are excited to welcome George to the RIAA family,” said RIAA chairman & CEO Cary Sherman. “He brings a wealth of knowledge on a variety of issues that are critically important to our business, from the protection of intellectual property abroad to international trade laws and beyond. George is a well-respected leader in his field and we are delighted he has joined our team.”
