MPA to hire head of diversity, equality and inclusion

The Music Publishers Association is to hire a head of diversity, equality and inclusion.

The senior executive role will report directly to MPA CEO Paul Clements, and work to develop and implement strategies to improve diversity, equality and inclusion for the MPA Group of companies and as leadership for the MPA’s music publisher members. The MPA owns subsidiaries MCPS and PMLL.

The MPA Board has recently committed the organisation and its members to a renewed focus on equality, diversity and inclusion. It is now seeking to appoint a senior executive-level professional to drive strategic change in this critical area, both within the organisation and the wider music publishing community.

The MPA has committed to improve the ratio of gender-balanced, Black, Asian and ethnic minority representation across its board, committees and companies.

"This new position is an important and integral part of our strategic plan," said Roberto Neri, MPA chair. "Diversity has been our top agenda item at every board meeting over the past year and I would like to thank our publisher board members for their continued commitment."

In a job advertisement for the role, the MPA said: “Whilst progress has been made, in partnership with a number of stakeholders, we are aware that much more needs to be done. We want to implement a diversity, equality and inclusion strategy that fully recognises the extraordinary contribution that black, Asian and ethnic minority artists and business talent have made to British music, while ensuring that individuals from all the characteristic groups protected under the Equality Act 2010… experience equality of opportunity within the music publishing industry.”

The head of diversity, equality and inclusion will, on behalf of the MPA and the music publishing sector, work in collaboration with the wider music industry to promote cultural change.

Key responsibilities include leading a review into and to make recommendations on the changes that are needed to the MPA’s governance, policies, employment systems and culture in relation to equality, diversity and inclusion.
