Proper Music Group, the UK’s third largest music distributor, is set to move its warehouse operations to a new site, which will increase its capacity to five times what it is now. As well as a huge boost in storage space, the new 32,304 sq ft site at Graviton Park, Belvedere will quadruple pick and pack capability.
The build is earmarked for completion in July, with the move of over 5 million CDs and vinyl expected to begin in September, ahead of a full opening in January 2017.
The move will see the company permanently bid farewell to its existing Sydenham HQ, with office functions also set to move to a new building in Surrey Quays in September. The Sydenham site will remain under Proper ownership meanwhile, with new tenants being sought.
The expansion follows the company’s record financials for 2014/15, which saw profit increase 250% to £272K as turnover grew to £21.6m.
Said Drew Hill, managing director of Proper Music Group: "The relocation is an exciting step as our distribution business continues to expand, considerably increasing capacity and enabling us to service orders faster. We have worked hard to find sites that are well placed for our workforce and well served by public transport in order to make the move as easy as possible".
