The Department for Culture, Media and Sport has revealed that the UK’s creative industries were worth £84.1 billion to the UK economy in 2014.
The creative industries generate nearly £9.6 million per hour, with figures showing that the sector is growing at almost twice the rate of the wider UK economy. Gross value added was up 8.9% year-on-year to £84.1bn in 2014 - nearly twice the 4.6% rise for the whole of the UK - and accounted for 5.2% of the UK economy.
