The Q Awards have been staged at the Roundhouse in London tonight (October 18) with Liam Gallagher, Ed Sheeran and Stormzy among the recipients.
Absolute radio presenter Christian O’Connell hosted the event, which was held in its new home in Camden. Twelve Q Awards were handed out during the ceremony, which was followed by a sold-out live show from Manic Street Preachers. The Welsh band also picked up the Q Inspiration Award.
Liam Gallagher collected two awards - Q Best Live Act and Q Icon – following the huge week one sale of his debut solo album.
Ed Sheeran, who’s pulled shows after suffering an injury this week, was crowned Q’s Best Act In The World Today.
The Q Best Track award went to Kasabian for You’re In Love With A Psycho, while Gorillaz the won Q Best Album award for Humanz.
Grime also received recognition with awards for Wiley (Q Innovation in Sound) and Stormzy (Q Best Solo Artist). Stormzy has also just been nominated for five MOBO Awards.
Rag‘N’Bone Man, the year’s biggest breakthrough artist, beat stiff competition to bag the Q Best Breakthrough Act award.
The Q Maverick award went to Viv Albertine, while The Breeders’ Kelley Deal was honoured with the Q Gibson Les Paul Award.
Guest award presenters included Paloma Faith, Game of Throne’ Maisie Williams and Skepta.
Sleaford Mods, who won the inaugural Q Best Film award, for Bunch of Kunst, also performed after the ceremony.
Ted Kessler, editor of Q magazine, said: “I am humbled by the array of talent who turned up to accept their Q Awards this year, as well being very grateful to the stars who presented them. It underlines – as if it needs underlining – that Q alone welcomes great music from across all genres, all eras, all backgrounds… as long as the artists are alive.
“In the week that Liam smashed all kinds of records for first-week sales of his debut album, it also brought home to me how robust the current music scene is, and how the old boundaries between underground and pop have crumbled.”
