Welcome to the latest edition of Six Questions With..., a short and sharp interview with a live music figure. Email jhanley@nbmedia.com if you would like to take part or recommend someone for inclusion.
This week's Q&A is with Mike Weller, head of music for Music Venues Ltd/Electric Brixton.
What was your first job in music?
Giving out and collecting XLR’s and D.I boxes at a grotty rehearsal space in North London
How long have you been in your current role?
Five years.
What is your favourite thing about working in the live music industry?
Not having to get the same time train in to work every morning. The thought of seeing the same faces every morning would be pretty boring.
What is the one thing you would like to change about the live business?
More initiatives to build, develop and protect small live music venues. If we keep losing venues, then we might as well just turn into Luxembourg.
What has been the highlight of your career so far?
Being asked by Alicia Keys for a tin of minestrone soup.
What is the best gig you’ve ever been to?
Rage Against The Machine at Reading 1996.
