Attitude is Everything is celebrating innovation in making live music accessible to deaf and disabled audiences with the launch of the Outstanding Attitude Awards.
The initiative will look to highlight the most forward-looking venues, festivals and music events in the UK and how they are creatively developing access for deaf and disabled music fans. The awards will shine a spotlight on the use of new technologies, incorporating innovative design techniques and ensuring provisions for disabled fans are a central part of their events.
The awards are open to the 120+ venues and festivals signed up to Attitude is Everything’s Charter of Best Practice, or those who plan to sign up in the forthcoming 12 months.
Nominations are open now and will close on Friday 21st October.
Entrants will be judged by a panel of industry experts and fans, consisting of:
Mark Butler, Head of Venue Operations, Roundhouse
Paul Reed, CEO, Association of Independent Festivals
James Hanley, Senior Staff Writer, Music Week
Hannah McKearnen, Blogger and Attitude is Everything volunteer
The winners of 2016’s Outstanding Attitude Awards will then be announced on Monday 21st November 2016.
Suzanne Bull, CEO of Attitude is Everything, said: “Attitude is Everything’s Charter of Best Practice is designed to promote innovation and dismantle barriers to accessing live music. Venues and festivals that join at our Bronze stage are encouraged to keep moving forward until they reach Silver or Gold, and as a result of this process we are seeing the most forward-thinking event producers become ever more creative and resourceful in how they encourage Deaf and disabled fans to attend their shows.
“The Outstanding Attitude Awards were conceived with these businesses in mind. We want to shine a light on the most creative, the most interesting and most envelope-pushing examples of access provision - and look forward to celebrating the best of the best in just over two month’s time.”
