All Points East has today (November 19) been awarded the Silver Status of Attitude Is Everything’s Charter of Best Practice. The award is given in recognition of the event’s continued commitment to inclusivity and access for deaf and disabled people.
The announcement comes alongside the news that Tame Impala will be the first All Points East headliner for 2020. An official press release stated that “the group are one of the most requested acts for the festival, and will be armed with new material from their forthcoming LP The Slow Rush – their first album in five years.”
Also set to join Tame Impala on May 23 are Caribou, Glass Animals, Whitney, Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever and Holy F. More acts are set to be announced at a later date.
All Points East’s new Silver Status is the result of a raft of initiatives, with the event featuring a dedicated entrance lane, pre-bookable viewing platforms, dedicated access customer service team both on-site and year-round, accommodating for customers with guide dogs, accessible toilets at every toilet block, Hearing Induction Loops, lowered counters, charging points for chairs, online EasyReads and more.
The festival is also set to introduce a number of new initiatives for 2020, including implementing accessibility software Recite Me onto the All Points East website, allowing customers to customise their website in a way which works for – such as changing the website’s colour palette dependent on visual impairment. All Points East is also set to be a part of Attitude is Everything’s 20th Anniversary celebrations next year.
Speaking about the Silver Status recognition, Jenny Hamada, director of events at AEG Presents said: “We constantly strive to ensure that All Points East is accessible to all those who wish to attend. Gaining the Silver status is the next step on this journey, and we look forward to continuing our strong relationship with Attitude Is Everything to implement innovative solutions each year.”
Suzanne Bull, CEO of Attitude Is Everything – and previous Women In Music winner – added: “All Points East have worked closely with Attitude is Everything since the festival’s inception and we are delighted to see the festival achieve the silver award on our Charter of Best Practice. The festival has a superb customer service team supporting disabled customers onsite, has engaged with customer feedback and Disability Equality Training and provides facilities such as a High Dependency Unit and multiple viewing platforms and lowered bars around the site. We are keen to continue to support All Points East as it continues to build its reputation and strive for our Charter of Best Practice gold award.”
In a press release, All Points East also stated that it will be continuing its commitment towards sustainability (committing to both 100% HVO Biofuel and working towards eliminating single-use plastic from all serveware), and work within the local community – an aspect that sits at the core of All Points East.
All Points East enjoyed a successful first edition in London’s Victoria Park last summer and won the Festival Of The Year category at the Music Week Awards earlier in the year. The 2019 edition featured headline sets from The Chemical Brothers, The Strokes and Christine And The Queens.
