Indpendent music services company Kobalt has announced a worldwide agreement with Zayn.
The deal was signed with both Kobalt Music Publishing and Neighbouring Rights divisions, and covers all available works including the singer’s debut album Mind Of Mine.
Released via RCA in March, the album saw the 23-year-old become the first UK male solo artist to debut at No.1 with their first album on both the UK and US charts. It has sold 51,138 copies in the UK so far, according to Official Charts Company data.
“Kobalt is a great business partner for Zayn,” said the former One Direction star’s manager, Sarah Stennett, CEO and founder of First Access Entertainment. “He made a decision based upon his desire to retain ownership of the copyrights in the songs he has written. He feels that Kobalt is best placed to administer those copyrights globally.”
Sas Metcalfe, Kobalt’s president of global creative, added: “Zayn is an exceptional talent as an artist and songwriter. His international success is unparalleled and Kobalt is proud to represent and support his career. He’s already off to an amazing start and we’re very excited for what the future will bring.”
