The IFPI has launched an inquiry into allegations of sexual harassment made against Placido Domingo, the trade body’s honorary chairman.
It follows a report by the Associated Press, in which numerous women accused the opera legend of sexual harassment and inappropriate behaviour spanning decades.
Domingo has been general director of the LA Opera since 2003 and was previously its artistic director.
In a statement, the IFPI said: “We have only now become aware of the serious allegations that have been reported in the media against IFPI’s honorary chairman, Placido Domingo. A formal inquiry will be undertaken.
“IFPI firmly believes that sexual harassment in any form cannot be tolerated.”
Los Angeles Opera has also launched an investigation. Two music companies have cancelled planned appearances by Domingo.
