The Greatest Showman could become the greatest soundtrack.
Music Week can reveal that the OST release from Atlantic passed the 2 million sales landmark this week. Its current tally is 2,001,226 sales, according the Official Charts Company.
The Greatest Showman has not been out of the Top 10 since January 2018 – it’s currently at No.8 on the Midweek chart and has even registered a slight weekly sales increase. In total, The Greatest Showman has spent 28 weeks at the summit, most recently in January.
The breakdown is 993,309 physical sales (49.6%), 302,919 downloads (15.1%) and 699,991 streams (35%). Its 2019 sales total is 367,293, with the streaming proportion now up to 46.6%.
The album was the biggest global seller of 2018. It also inspired an official covers album, The Greatest Showman Reimagined, a global arena tour from its star Hugh Jackman and a BRIT Awards opening performance. It also broke a chart record held by Adele and squeezed out an awful lot of UK No.1 album contenders.
The stellar success of The Greatest Showman contributed to the Music Week Awards victory of the Warner Music UK sales team last month.

“It’s been a phenomenal success for us and it’s still selling,” Linda Walker, VP, commercial, told Music Week. “It spans so many different age groups, from little kids upwards. There’s still a lot of people out there who won’t have seen the film and when they do they want to have that music. It’s an incredible piece of work, so we’re proud to have worked on it.”
The Showman album has now outsold the original Mamma Mia 2008 soundtrack album (1,662,208 sales).
Other highly successful recent movie tie-in releases are still nowhere Showman: Guardians Of The Galaxy - Awesome Mix 1 (668,027 sales), Les Miserables (607,798), Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again (454,689), A Star Is Born (439,442), Bohemian Rhapsody (419,956), Trolls (322,824), Moana (322,547), Guardians Of The Galaxy - Awesome Mix 2 (256,254) and La La Land (182,702).
However, The Greatest Showman can’t yet claim soundtrack supremacy. The Grease soundtrack is certified eight times platinum (2.4m-plus sales) by the BPI and Saturday Night Fever is seven times platinum (2.1m-plus sales).
