Thanks to Daptone Records, the global map of soul music now has Brooklyn twinned with Colchester.
Daptone is marking 15 years as the New York home of cool, old-school indie R&B, via such veteran artists as Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings and Charles Bradley, as well as newer names such as Jones’ former vocalists Saun & Starr. Now the label is marching into 2016 with its first British signing: authentic Essex soul man James Hunter.
