Creation Records' Alan McGee launches new label

Creation Records legend Alan McGee is coming back to the record business – with a new 7”-only label called Creation23.

The founder of renowned 80s/90s indie label Creation – one-time home to the likes of Oasis, Primal Scream, The Boo Radleys and My Bloody Valentine – and noughties imprint Poptones (The Hives) has been involved in music management in recent years, handling the likes of The Jesus And Mary Chain and Happy Mondays through his firm Creation Management.

But he’s been out of the label game since a 2013 JV with Cherry Red, 359 Music, didn’t come to much.

Creation23, however, sees McGee – who clearly isn’t embracing the streaming revolution – return with one thing on his mind.

“I want to put records again,” he said. “I’ve missed it, there’s a lot of good music around and it feels like a good time to do it. Twenty-three is my lucky number.”

The label’s first release will be Feeling Funny/Bumpy Faces by Essex band Rubber Jaw. New artists are encouraged to send submissions to Creation23 via DanDevine23@gmail.com.

Here’s hoping the next Oasis will be amongst them…
