Universal Music Group has announced an agreement with Wondery to develop premium original podcasts.

The deal with the independent podcast publisher will enable Wondery to draw upon the UMG catalogue and its roster of artists.

Podcasts produced under the agreement will be accessible globally via Wondery’s chosen platforms.

The deal follows Spotify’s recent moves into the podcast space.

UMG described the podcast partnership as an incubator for its growing slate of film and television projects. It will also provide the major with a platform to reach audiences with content from short and long-form programming from the company’s Polygram Entertainment and labels worldwide.

UMG has been developing and producing podcasts for local audiences around the world since 2012.
