Music streaming giant Spotify has announced the launch of Release Radar, a weekly selection of the newest releases personalised for the listener. It aims to deliver “all of your new favourite music, without any of the effort that goes into searching for the latest gems”.
Release Radar will be updated every Friday, and offers two hours of new songs from the artists that Spotify users follow and listen to most, as well as some new discoveries based on their listening habits. It will also work alongside New Music Friday, the aim of which is to connect people with new artists they may not yet know about.
Spotify has also promised that Release Radar will evolve along with the listeners music tastes, saying “the more you listen, the better it gets”.
While the playlist will, of course, be accessible across all platforms and devices, and can be shared with friends.
“With the huge amount of new music released every week, it can be difficult to keep up with the latest tracks,” says Matt Ogle, Senior Product Owner at Spotify. “With Release Radar, we wanted to create the simplest way for you to find all the newly released music that matters the most to you, in one playlist.”
The new function is introduced ahead of Apple Music’s upcoming redesign, which incorporates a number of new user features.
