At the mid-way point of the year, it’s a chance to take stock with the music of 2018 including the industry’s favourite songs of the past six months.
Shazam has now revealed the most popular songs and artists on the platform this year, though in some cases that involves continued momentum from 2017. Ed Sheeran’s Christmas No.1 Perfect is the most Shazamed track of 2018 to date and he’s the top artist.
While Sheeran’s superstar status might suggest he shouldn’t need to be Shazamed more than a year after release of his huge-selling ÷, the song identifier app has also helped fans discover newer artists. Reggaeton singer J Balvin is the second most Shazamed artist and his Nicky Jam collaboration X is the No.2 most Shazamed track.
“Even though Ed’s album ÷ is now more than a year old, the songs from it continue to be Shazamed in large numbers,” said Julian Marshall, global head of content. “With some big releases incoming from Drake, Nicki Minaj and Ariana Grande, and tracks like X still in our Worldwide Top 10, it’ll be interesting to see if he’s still top of the charts at the end of the year.”
