Spotify pays Apple a fee on less than 1% of its subscriptions, according to documents filed with European competition regulators.
It follows a complaint to the EU by the Swedish streaming giant about fees charged by Apple’s in-app purchase system. Spotify argued that Apple’s control of the App store was unfair to streaming rivals.
The EU has launched an official inquiry, which revealed that Spotify pays a 15% fee on around 680,000 of its 100 million-plus premium subscribers.
Apple charges a 30% fee for in-app purchases, which goes down to 15% on subscription purchases after one year.
Spotify has not used Apple’s in-app purchase system for the last three years. It has not commented on the breakdown of fees, which were first reported by Der Spiegel.
