Spotify’s Discover Weekly feature has, it would appear, turned millions of music fans on to new tunes and artists they might never have discovered otherwise.
Whether it’s the latest up and coming acts or hidden treasures from days of yore, the feature does seem to have an uncanny ability to produce something that’s at least worth a listen on a fairly regular basis.
OK, so there is the odd curveball. Especially if you have kids or a significant other sharing your account. At least that’s what I tell people whenever the Mr Blobby Christmas Song starts pumping out of my speakers when I’ve got friends round on a Saturday night.
On the whole, though, it seems to be a pretty accurate service. But what do we know about the listening habits of other Spotify users? Have any particular artists broken through on account of the feature? And, if so, what does that tell us, if anything, about the tastes of its users?
Well, Spotify has today revealed some key streaming insights into the Discover Weekly feature. And we’ve trawled through the data to reveal seven key Discover Weekly facts, such as how many people are using it, who the hottest discoveries are and which tracks have received the most plays…
1. LA band LANY is the most streamed Discover Weekly artist
2. LANY (again) has the most streamed Discover Weekly track with their song ILYSB
3. Over 40 million listeners use the service each week
4. Over 8,000 artists have counted over half of their monthly listens as coming from Discover Weekly
5. Kiara’s track Gold is the most collected song from Discover Weekly
6. Pop is its most streamed genre
7. 42% of listeners use Discover Weekly first thing in the morning - more than those who chose working out (28%) or food (33%)
