It’s been the year of the streaming exclusive – but all that could be about to change, with Universal Music Group vowing to step back from using the approach for its new releases.
Universal’s apparent shift in policy came after its artist Frank Ocean released his new album, Blonde, as a self-released iTunes/Apple Music exclusive – the day after he released “visual album” Endless, also via Apple, as the final release in his Universal deal.
