David Bowie was honoured with two posthumous awards at tonight's BRIT Awards, while The 1975, Little Mix and Rag'N'Bone Man were also among the big winners.
Bowie, who died in January 2016, was named Best British Male Solo Artist and also took the Best British Album award for his final LP, Blackstar. He had previously won four BRITs - twice winning Best British Male, picking up the Outstanding Contribution To Music award in 1996 and the BRITs Icon award, given posthumously last year. Actor Michael C Hall paid a moving tribute to the late star as he accepted Bowie's British Male Solo Artist award, stating "If David Bowie could be here tonight...he probably wouldn't be here tonight.
There were also big wins for The 1975 (British Group), Emeli Sande (Female Solo Artist) and Adele (BRITs Global Success), while Rag'N'Bone Man became the first artist to win British Breakthrough Act and the Critics' Choice award in the same year.
Elsewhere, Little Mix won Best British Single for Shout Out To My Ex and One Direction claimed Best British Artist Video for their song History.
The international categories, meanwhile, saw triumphs for Drake (International Male), Beyonce (International Female) and A Tribe Called Quest (International Group).
An emotional tribute to the late George Michael was also given by his former bandmates Andrew RIdgeley, Pepsi and Shirley. "His legacy is one of unquestionable brilliance and one that will shine," said Ridgeley.
The tribute was followed by a performance of Michael's hit A Different Corner by Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, in which he dueted with the late star via live video footage of him performing the song.
Meanwhile, Coldplay took the stage for an surprise performance with The Chainsmokers, where they played brand new song Something Just Like This, made available to stream and download after the show.
