The BRIT Awards 2018 with Mastercard has today [January 5] announced Steve Mac as the recipient of the BRIT Award for British Producer.
Mac’s 2017 production credits include Top Ten singles by Pink, Rita Ora and Liam Payne, as well as co-writing and producing Ed Sheeran’s Shape Of You which became the most streamed track of all time and the highest selling UK single of last year. Over the course of his career he has produced records with worldwide record sales of over 200 million, making him one of the UK’s most successful music producers right now.
Speaking about the win, Steve Mac said: “I feel truly humbled to receive this prestigious award, especially as it’s voted for by my record label peers who I greatly respect. This really is the icing on the cake at the end of such an amazing year, not only for me personally but for British music.”
BRITs Chairman and Chairman & CEO of Sony Music UK & Ireland Jason Iley added: "I am absolutely delighted for Steve – what a phenomenal year. He has worked with the biggest artists and delivered the biggest songs around the world. Steve is an incredibly talented and versatile producer and the most worthy recipient of the Best British Producer Award after the most exceptional hit rate this past year."
The Best British Producer was reinstated into the Official BRITs Voting procedures in December 2017, having been rested in last year’s ceremony. The BRIT Awards and the MPG (Music Producers Guild) took the unusual step so that the voting method could be reviewed, with the party line from both camps suggesting that the two could not arrive at a satisfactory way to judge the category.
Mac will receive his award during proceedings around The BRITs show on Wednesday February 21 at The O2, London, which will be broadcast exclusively on ITV. The show will be hosted by Jack Whitehall and feature live performances by Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith, Stormzy and Dua Lipa, with more performers to be announced soon.
The nominations for the 2018 BRIT Awards will be revealed at The BRITs Are Coming on Saturday January 13, which will broadcast live on ITV; hosted by Emma Willis and include live performances from Paloma Faith, Clean Bandit, J Hus, Jorja Smith and Liam Payne.
