After successfully celebrating BBC Radio 1 and Radio 2’s 50th anniversary in September, bosses believe that reinvention will be the key to another 50 years on air.
The Q3 RAJAR figures cut off just before the 50th birthday, so didn’t take into account the listenership over that period.
But Helen Thomas, Radio 2’s network editor, said they have recruited new and dedicated listeners and the evolution of all the stations, especially Radio 2, is the way forward.
