Radio X's Mike Walsh on Ten Tonnes' Lucy
Every now and again you hear something that just brims with potential on first listen – Maz from Communion Presents on Radio X sent me a link to Lucy by Ten Tonnes a few months ago and it jumped out as a hit waiting to happen.
It’s a wonderfully infectious song with widescreen ambition and an easy confidence. There are flashes of the classics like Edwyn Collins and Elvis Costello as well as the indie pop persuasiveness of the first Kooks album.
Ten Tonnes is Ethan Barnett, a 19-year-old from Hertford who has the vocals, and possibly the writing ability, of a future British music star. Maybe following a similar path as his older brother, George Ezra.
Ten Tonnes is now managed by Matt Johnson and Nigel Templeton at Redlight Management and is understandably the focus of much A&R attention.
