The xx to play record seven night stint at Brixton Academy

The xx will become the first act ever to play more than five nights at London’s Brixton Academy.

The trio will embark on a seven-night run of shows at the south London venue in March, with gigs booked from 8-11 and 13-15. They will play to a total of almost 35,000 fans over the course of all seven performances.

The previous record stood at five nights, that total was shared by a list of artists including The 1975, The Prodigy, Hard-Fi, Nine Inch Nails and Rammstein. Comedy act The Mighty Boosh Played seven nights at the venue in 1998.

The news comes as The xx expand their 2017 tour of the UK and Europe. The run starts in February in Sweden, stretching to Cardiff and The Motorpoint Arena on March 17. The band will play in support of forthcoming third album I See You, due on XL on January 13.

It comes in the wake of 2009 sleeper hit debut xx, which has sold 556,758 copies to date and 2012 follow-up Coexist, which has sold 262,766.
