Status Quo's Rick Parfitt has died in hospital at the age of 68.
The guitarist passed away this lunchtime in Marbella, Spain, as a result of a severe infection, having been admitted to hospital on Thursday night following complications to a shoulder injury incurred by a previous fall.
Parfitt had suffered numerous health issues in recent years and retired from performing with Status Quo on medical advice earlier this year. He had been planning to launch a solo career, with an album and autobiography in the works for 2017.
"He will be sorely missed by his family, friends, fellow band members, management, crew and his dedicated legion of fans from throughout the world, gained through 50 years of monumental success with Status Quo," said a statement from his family, and Status Quo manager Simon Porter.
Parfitt is survived by his wife Lyndsay and children Tommy, Lily, Rick and Harry.
