Tokio Myers has described his debut album as “a big deal” in a new interview with Music Week.
Britain’s Got Talent winner Myers features as the On The Radar act in our latest edition, out now, and his LP, Our Generation, is in line for a Top 5 finish come Friday. According to the latest Midweek figures, the record is at No.3 on 19,102 sales, behind Paloma Faith and Morrissey.
“This is a piano album that could chart!” he told Music Week. “That’s a big deal. I’m a pianist, not a singer or a rapper, I’m signed to a major, and I’ve written an album no one has written before. This could be a gamechanger. I’ve opened up a gaping door...”
In the interview, the talent show winner – who fuses modern pop with his background as a classical pianist and is signed to Syco – also discusses 2017’s pop landscape.
“Put on Radio 1 and it’s all the same music!” he said. “I think people are bored, but people live off what they’re fed. No one seems to want to change things, but here I am with something different, emotional.”
