As the build up to the release of their new album continues, Gorillaz have unveiled a new app.
The Mixed Reality app is designed to give fans direct insight into their animated world for the first time. Developed by Gorillaz in conjunction with creative agency B-Reel and with support from marketing agency Deutsche Telekom, the app blends the real world, AR, VR and 360 environments, using the technology in a narrative context for the first time.
It will allow fans to immerse themselves in the world of Gorillaz and join Murdoc, 2D, Russel and Noodle in the Gorillaz House.
To mark the release of Humanz on April 28 via Parlophone, fans will be invited – via the app – to the Humanz House Party, an exclusive worldwide listening event which will allow the new album to be heard in full for the first time. It’s set to be the largest ever geo-specific listening experience, bringing people together across 500 locations.
Humanz was announced last month and features collaborators including Noel Gallagher, Danny Brown, Grace Jones and Mavis Staples.
Also in March, it was revealed that Gorillaz would make their long-awaited live comeback at Demon Dayz, a new one-day festival at Margate’s Dreamland venue on June 10 curated by the band’s Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett.
