IPv6 was developed by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) to deal with the anticipated exhaustion of internet addresses under Internet Protocol version 4. It includes additional features not present in IPv4, such as increased network security.
However, it still needs extensive testing. To help with this, the Internet Society has organised World IPv6 Day on June 8, with major internet companies and other industry players enabling IPv6 on their websites for a 24-hour test.
