A US appeals court has rejected ASCAP’s bid to increase the rate that Pandora must pay to license its music, as well as preventing publishers from negotiating direct deals for their digital rights.
The 2nd US Circuit Court of Appeals today upheld two rulings by US District Judge Denise Cote last year. One set Pandora’s ASCAP royalty rate for use of songs from 2011 – 2015 at 1.85% of revenue. ASCAP had wanted to raise that rate to 3%.
