Spotify has announced the acquisition of photo aggregator CrowdAlbum.
Launched in 2013, CrowdAlbum aggregates photos and videos from artists’ performances. The albums give artists a visual history of their tours and help them identify and connect with their most passionate fans.
"We're working every day to find ways to tighten the connection between artists and their fans,” said Charlie Hellman, VP of product at Spotify. “The CrowdAlbum acquisition is the latest way Spotify is investing in helping artists find and engage their audiences on and off Spotify, especially around the ever important business of touring."
CrowdAlbum, which works with more than 1,000 artists and venue partners in the US, including Diplo, Death Cab For Cutie, Lil Wayne and Fall Out Boy, will join a team at Spotify focused on building products for artists, such as Spotify Fan Insights to help artists better understand their Spotify listeners and Concerts to promote artists' shows to relevant fans.
