The Recording Academy has commended Apple for the U-turn on its initial unwillingness to pay rights-holders for streams during the three-month free trial period of its new service Apple Music.

Apple was subject to increasing criticism from the global independent community for its policy on royalty payments during the trail period, which will launch on June 30.
