The IFPI has confirmed Friday as the global release day for new music. The change will come into effect in 'summer 2015'.
The move will bring all territories in line with Australia and Germany, amongst others, but would mean big changes in other countries including the UK and the US.
It's hoped that a global release day will create a sense of occasion for consumers, help artists and labels promote new music and reduce the risk of piracy.
