Global crowd funding grew 81% in 2012, music projects raised $205.5m

Global crowd funding grew 81% to $2.7 billion in 2012, successfully financing more than 1 million campaigns, according to a new report.

Projects related directly to music and the recording arts represented 7.5% of total funding, or $202.5 million.

The data comes from from Massolution, a consultancy specialising in the crowdsourcing and crowd funding industries.

Films & Performing Arts projects represented 11.9% of funding globally. The Social Causes and Business & Entrepreneurship categories attracted the most funding with a 30% and 16.9% share respectively.
