Streaming service Deezer has more than doubled its paying subscriber count in the past year having announced the 5 million milestone today (November 6).

Launched worldwide in 2011, the French company had 2 million paying subscribers in October 2012 after receiving $130m worth of investment from Access Industries.

Deezer's nearest competitor Spotify's last official paying subscriber figure stood at 6m.
