Following Amazon’s bid to own a number of web domains including .app, .web and the coveted .music, the Government Advisory Committee (GAC) panel has submitted 28 complaints from three different countries.
The 50-nation strong panel make non-binding recommendations to the international internet regulator the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (Icann).
Australian representatives claim Amazon’s dominance of such generic “strings” would threaten competition laws, as the firms seeks exclusive access “to a broad market sector.”
