Katy Perry has been announced as the host of the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards in Los Angeles on August 27.
The Roar singer will also perform at the VMAs ceremony and compete for awards in five categories, including Best Pop for Chained to the Rhythm and Best Collaboration alongside Calvin Harris for Feels (also featuring Pharrell Williams and Big Sean).
“We’re thrilled to have global phenomenon Katy Perry as the host and a performer at the 2017 VMAs,” said Bruce Gillmer, head of music and music talent of Viacom’s global entertainment group. “She is at the forefront of music culture and the perfect person to anchor this year’s show, which promises to be one of the most diverse and music-filled in VMA history.”
Perry returned in June with her new album, Witness (Virgin EMI), which debuted at No 5 on sales of 13,551. As well as previewing the record with an intimate London Water Rats show, she also performed at Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Hull and Glastonbury.
The singer’s AEG-promoted world tour begins in September and will head to the UK in June 2018, including two shows at the O2 Arena. Perry is also set to be a judge on the revived American Idol series.
