BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra have appointed Matt Fincham and Ryan Newman to newly created editor positions across both stations as part of a team restructure.
The editor roles are new positions on the team and will help devise and implement music strategy, playing a central role in the musical direction of both Radio 1 & 1Xtra.
Fincham will take on the role of editor for Radio 1, while Newman takes on the role for 1Xtra.
Along with Chris Price, head of music, BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra, Fincham and Newman will support both stations in developing their offerings to meet the changing consumption habits among young audiences.
They will also be, along with Price, the key points of contact for the music industry, as Radio 1 and 1Xtra continue to support and break new UK artists.
Fincham joins the music team from production, having been a long-standing member of the Radio 1 playlist committee and producer of Breakfast and Annie Mac’s show. He will be supported in his new role by Mel Lewis and a new, yet to be announced producer.
Newman has accumulated many years of programming experience working across both networks and has played a central role in driving 1Xtra’s music strategy in recent months. He will continue to lead 1Xtra for music, supported by Jade Style.
Earlier this week it was announced the Radio 1 and 1Xtra controller Ben Cooper has been appointed controller of BBC Radio’s Asian Network.
