Sir Lucian Grainge knighted at Buckingham Palace

Universal Music Group boss Sir Lucian Grainge CBE has been knighted at Buckingham Palace.

Sir Lucian was invested in the Order of the British Empire and Knight Bachelor by Prince William in a ceremony held today.

The knighthood, which was announced in the Queen’s 90th birthday honours back in June, was bestowed upon the UMG chairman and CEO for his accomplishments in the music industry and his leadership through its challenging times.

The honour also acknowledges Sir Lucian's contribution to British business and inward investment and his development of innovative business models, technology and media partnerships which have led to an expansion of UMG’s global presence.

Los Angeles-based Sir Lucian graduated through the ranks at Universal UK, previously serving in roles such as managing director of Polydor, chairman/CEO of Universal Music UK and chairman/CEO of Universal Music Group International. He’s served as UMG CEO since 2010 and chairman since the following year.
