As exclusively revealed in the new issue of Music Week, Sony Music Entertainment has today (January 16) confirmed the appointment of Sarah Thwaites as the new head of Masterworks UK. Thwaites was responsible for UK marketing of Sony Masterworks’ artists and previously held positions at Music Productions, Floating Earth and Signum Classics. Sony Masterworks, a division of Sony Music Entertainment, comprises Masterworks, Sony Classical, OKeh, Portrait, deutsche harmonia mundi and Masterworks Broadway.
Speaking about the appointment, Mark Cavell, SVP/COO Sony Masterworks said: “Sarah Thwaites is an extremely gifted record executive who will drive our UK label forward to develop and market artists and projects in a streaming dominated music industry. Her passion and expertise have been major assets to the company over the past five years and I congratulate her on this well-deserved promotion."??
Sarah succeeds Liam Toner, who moves to a new role at Sony Masterworks International, developing commercial projects and concepts with global appeal.
Thwaites added: “To be appointed head of Masterworks UK, and work closely with our incredible roster of artists, is an honour. I am grateful to Mark and Liam for their continued support and I look forward to leading the exceptional UK team forward.”
Speaking about his own move, Toner commented: “I am delighted to be handing over the reins of Masterworks UK to Sarah, who is one of the most talented and dynamic young executives I have ever encountered. I look forward to my new role at Masterworks International and after 40 years, an ideal work/ life balance. It takes longer to read a wine list these days.” ?
