Taylor Swift breaks records amid UK promotional push for The Life Of A Showgirl

The Life Of A Showgirl is already breaking records for Taylor Swift.

Spotify reported that on release day (October 3) Swift’s new single, The Fate Of Ophelia, became the most streamed song in a single day in Spotify history.

Meanwhile, The Life Of A Showgirl became Spotify's most streamed album in a single day in 2025 so far.

Amazon Music also confirmed that The Life Of A Showgirl has become the most streamed album of 2025 for the day of release on the platform globally.

The record, which includes an interpolation of George Michael’s Father Figure, is already making a streaming impact in the UK. On the Official Charts First Look chart, The Fate of Ophelia (No.1), Elizabeth Taylor (No.2) and Opalite (No.3) all make up the Top 3

In the US, Luminate has reported that the album sold 2.7 million copies on the day of release (October 3) – already the second highest tally ever for an opening week. Swift has the remainder of the sales week to try and beat Adele's 25, which set the record with 3.4m units sold in its opening week in 2015.

In addition, Luminate also reported that The Life Of A Showgirl set a record for the most vinyl units sold in a week with 1.2m copies on the opening day.

For this album, Swift is making a rare media push including an interview this morning (October 6) on the BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show with Scott Mills.

Asked if the Eras Tour inspired the theme of the album, Swift told Mills: “I think so, I think the energy that I felt on that tour, it was so big and infectious, and I wrote most of this while I was on that tour. So it's like I would go from three shows in a stadium, fly to Sweden, fly back to the tour, fly to Sweden. And it sounds like sort of an impossible feat or a ridiculous challenge to take on, but at that point in the tour, I was so physically exhausted that I kind of needed to get back in that creative space and that fuelled me past physical exhaustion.”

Swift also discussed the studio reunion with producers Max Martin and Shellback.

“We ended up capturing lightning in a bottle when we got back in the studio,” she said. “The three of us, Shellback, Max Martin, and I had not worked together since the Reputation album, which is seven, eight years ago now, and it was just so cool to get back to it because it felt a little bit like, Shellback and I are of similar age, and Max is a little older than us.

“So it was like when we were in our early twenties working with him, it felt a little bit like we were the protégés and he was the mentor. And this time around, it felt like all three of us, like it was a triangle of equal magnitude, you know?”

The first details of Taylor Swift’s album sales and streams in the UK will emerge on Monday evening (October 6).
