The music industry is hoping that Record Store Day 2018 will give a timely boost to physical music retail after a torrid first quarter in the sector.
BPI figures show that physical album sales slumped 24.2% in Q1, compared to just a 4.2% fall in Q1 2017. And even the vinyl revival showed signs of topping out, as sales grew only 4.7% year-on-year, compared to a 35.8% increase this time last year.
