Jay Z’s Tidal streaming platform has introduced a new high-res audio feature dubbed Master Audio.
The new function, which is available to Tidal HiFi tier subscribers, is designed to allow fans to listen to music with optimised audio quality, or ‘as it was recorded in the studio’.
At present, not all music available on Tidal will come with Master Audio compatibility, although the firm has stated that it will feature a wide range of content from labels and artists. Interestingly, a press release announcing the launch of Master Audio specifies that it will feature content from ‘Warner Music Group’s world renowned music catalogue’, suggesting it may not immediately feature content from fellow majors Sony and Universal.
“TIDAL is committed to bringing members closer to their favourite musicians and offering MQA sound quality will allow subscribers to hear music just as it was recorded in the studio,” said a Tidal representative. “We’re thrilled to bring master quality sound to our members.”
Master Audio comes integrated with high-res audio technology from MQA, which is designed to offer enhanced sound quality.
Mike Jbara, MQA CEO, said: “Tidal is an artist-centric music company. We could not be more excited that they share our vision of having fans hear the authentic performance of their favourite music.”
