Spotify has confirmed that its service has surpassed 100m monthly active users worldwide. The company is also believed to be edging closer to an IPO after hiring a head of investor relations.
But, in spite of what might seem like a booming streaming sector, the format still has some way to go before it gets to scale in the UK.
Only 14% of the British public have a music streaming subscription according to new research carried out by Kantar Worldpanel Entertainment, and released exclusively to Music Week, which surveyed a fairly large sample of 15,000 people.
The streaming data used in the study shows how many people owned a subscription in the four weeks up until the end of April.
