David Bowie hits 1 billion Spotify streams

David Bowie’s catalogue has reached a billion streams on Spotify.

The late singer’s most streamed song on Spotify is “Heroes”, which marks its 40th anniversary next month. Parlophone is releasing a limited edition seven-inch picture disc on September 22. The single also features in the forthcoming boxset, A New Career In A New Town 1977-1982.

Bowie, an internet pioneer in the ‘90s, appeared to foresee the future of the music industry and streaming. “The absolute transformation of everything that we ever thought about music will take place within 10 years, and nothing is going to be able to stop it,” he said in 2002. “Music itself is going to become like running water or electricity”.

Bowie’s Top 10 most streamed tracks of all time are:

“Heroes”
Let’s Dance
Space Oddity
Life On Mars
Starman
Rebel Rebel
Moonage Daydream
Changes
Ziggy Stardust
Modern Love

Bowie’s other popular streaming tracks include Fame, The Man Who Sold The World, China Girl, Oh! You Pretty Things, Sound & Vision, Where Are We Now?, This Is Not America, Ashes To Ashes and Young Americans.
